Education and Workforce Development

Earnest Clayton believes education should lift every child, not limit them. He will push for the federal government to play a stronger role in ensuring every public school has the same resources and support no matter the ZIP code.

Public schools in District 9 are underfunded and overburdened. Wealthier areas have strong programs and modern facilities while many working families are left with aging buildings, teacher shortages, and limited opportunities. The Trump administration’s cuts, attacks on public education, and push toward privatization have made these gaps worse. A child’s education should never depend on their family’s income or ZIP code.

Education in District 9 must be fully funded, equitable, and focused on preparing students for real success.

As your congressman, Earnest Clayton will:

• Fight for increased federal funding for public schools, ensuring every child has access to high-quality education.

• Oppose efforts to defund or privatize public education, including voucher programs that drain resources from neighborhood schools.

• Strengthen career and technical education, so students can graduate with certifications and job-ready skills.

• Invest in early education, after-school programs, and literacy support to help students thrive from the start.

• Support teachers through fair pay, retention programs, and safe working conditions.

• Expand community college and workforce training pathways, giving young people and adults affordable routes into good-paying careers.

• Promote fair and equitable school funding, so schools in working-class areas no longer get left behind.
