Earnest Clayton for Congress
A Voice for the People, Not the Politicians.
Real leadership that puts people before politics.
This is Clayton!
I am Earnest “Clayton” Clayton, born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas, by a strong single mother who taught me that faith, family, and hard work can overcome anything. Growing up in a working-class city where many families lived below the poverty line, I learned early the power of resilience and community.
I began my career in public health, serving Houston communities to confront inequities that affect everyday families. My work supported Black, Hispanic, and Brown communities, mixed-status households, and the LGBTQ+ community, while addressing women’s health and the rising rates of maternal mortality. These experiences showed me how deeply public policy shapes health and opportunity, and they strengthened my commitment to creating lasting change.
Later, I carried that same passion into education, teaching Health Science and preparing students for life beyond graduation. Even while teaching, I continued my work in public health and policy to expand access to care, promote equity, and strengthen communities across Houston.
From public health to education and policy, my purpose has always been to serve, uplift, and build pathways toward a better future for all.

Environmental Health and Industrial Accountability
Our neighborhoods sit near major freeways, rail lines, warehouses, petrochemicals, and concrete batch plants. This brings higher rates of asthma, respiratory illness, noise pollution, and other health risks. Environmental justice in District 9 is about clean air, safe water, and protecting the health of everyone especially our children and seniors.
Flooding, Infrastructure, and Climate Resilience
Too many families in District 9 live with the fear that the next storm could take everything they own.
Public Safety and Community Trust
Safety is not just about policing. It is about connection, understanding, and trust.
Affordable Housing and Neighborhood Stability
Earnest hears the frustration from families watching rents rise and neighborhoods change overnight.
Healthcare and Mental Health Access
As a public health leader, Earnest knows the data and he has seen the faces behind it. One in four adults in Harris County describes their health as fair or poor.
Transportation, Mobility, and Safety
For many families, a broken bus route or unsafe road can mean missed work, missed school, or missed opportunity.
